CMJ

CMJ has been quite the experience this year, and truthfully one of the most inspiring in my career. I think most times I have not really taken CMJ that serious and always overlooked it for what it was, a great time to network and use my many different skills to further my career. At the same time, I believe this is the first time I'm looking at CMJ through grown up eyes.

Not only does it have me thinking of things I can do with my own brand, but allows me to understand that with hard work and preperation, you can achieve anything you want. I am looking forward to my trip to Japan for JAPN MUSIC WEEK and hanging out with DAI from www.daitime.com. I'll bring some of this new found knowledge with me.

THE WISH LIST

So I've officially decided to name my album 30 which will kind of be my anthology of life up until the age of 30. I'm really excited about that. I'm working on a short list of heads I want to work with on the album and the funny thing is that it is coming along quite well. Just a testament of the hard work I've put in over the past few years, some of these people I actually may be able to work with. Since this is more of a social experiement, I have to figure out how to keep the bills low. I'm amped. I'll share more on the process over the next coming weeks.

In the meantime THW WHITE RABBIT Mixtape Pt. 1 cover will be done soon. I'm going to have to post it up for you guys to see. Until the next post enjoy this video House of Cards by Foreign Exchange. Nicolay, Musinah, and Big Pooh are certainly on my list of heads to work with in makin the album happen. ENJOY

IT'S TIME!

Ok people so now we are going to really start the project up. I've been spending the last few months in the studio just gearing up for the mixtape reelase, which will be released on December 16th, 2009. This date is significant because it's my 29th birthday and marks the official countdown to 30. So the project will be in full swing.

The crazy part is that prior to that I have some dope gigs coming up DJing and performing. I am very excited!!! So stay tuned this blog will be updated daily from now on.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Mr. Browne

SAY WHAT!

Photobucket
So in the despairing state of HIP HOP, I find myself drawn more and more to the underground scene. But I wander how it is that so much talent is available? I think its because much like visual artists underground artists don't have an affinity for the business that exists within the MUSIC BIZ. Though I know I sit on both sides of the table now. I feel there there is ample talent to control their manifest destiny.

I mean think DRAKE parlayed his situation by hiring the best in the marketing biz alongisde a great Music connect "Lil Wayne". So does this mean that the coupling of music, art, and the right investor mean success. Well truthfully it does not, but its a good start. Even great business models with ample venture capital, have to have good business practices.

This means maximizing assets. But how do you do that when you are questing for the Bentley? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM that is certainly a liability, alongside guady jewelry, excessive shopping, and some of the other pitfalls of stardum that most underground heads quest for. Just some food for thought, you do the dishes.

So I'm well on my way to finishing THE WHITE RABBIT. I'm supposed to be heading over to the infamous PRINT of GOOD DAY GOOD NIGHT'S (NOW CHRIS FAUST) studio to lay down some choice tracks. As I get closer to the deadline I have pondered on a few things.

1. Why is it that when you think you're done you find another track that you feel fits what you're doing?
2. Who the hell said this was going to be easy?
3. Why is it I find a new artist I love everyday?
4. Why is it that artists find it hard to transcend the love of the music for money, if they really love the music doesn't that mean that they should do it for free?
5. Why the hell am I worrying about all this crap? I'm supposed to be writting rhymes LOL

This creative process is so different than writing, but I'm enjoying it. Stay tuned...

THE MASTER PLAN

Photobucket

Ok people I've been hard at work formulating what is needed to make this project jump off properly. Planning is indeed a process that teaches you patience. As much as I would love to just jump on stage and get things going, I realize in order to be a viable artist in this emerging scene in NYC and abroad, I need to calculate each move. We are currently working on more outlets for you to be able to view this social experiment in a few different ways.

First and foremost, we are trying to finish the music. I never really realized why it takes so long to finish a mixtape. But in today's market it's so much more than some freestyles, curses, and naked women. These artists are really putting out some quality stuff or trying their best to. But I am on a deadline, so I am giving myself 2 weeks to finish the actual music for a secial pre-release download for JAPAN. Stay tuned as a chronicle trying to get this done. And to make it a little more difficult I've decided to do it on a $0 budget. DEADLINE AUGUST 8th. Lets see if I can make it happen.

WONDERLAND

As a child I was always fascinated with THE WHITE RABBIT in Alice in Wonderland. It was always peculiar to me how he was so inteligent yet so weak. In my older years I came to see him used recurringly in different metaphorical bodies of work. But to be honest it was not until THE MATRIX, that I really found myself intrigued by the sheer power in the symbolism for THE WHITE RABBIT. Always small and indiscrete yet the beggining of an adventure that takes you into unknwon territory. Thus the opening project "THE WHITE RABBIT."

Tim Burton is a genius, and from what I have seen he has quite the interpretation of the story ALICE IN WONDERLAND planned for release on 2010. Check out the trailor below and let me know what you think. Look out for the WONDERLAND TOUR in 2010.

STARBUCKS

Photobucket

Though I know many people find themselves critical of "The Bucks" overall agenda, I find myself drawn to their overpriced drinks (non-coffee) and coookie cutter decorum. I tend to sit, relax, and write in the ones that aren't so packed all the time. I think some good stuff is coming from these Starbucks excursions. I look forward to sharing some of my writings and lyrics with the world sometime in the future. Maybe I'll even give Starbucks some credit for holding me down on those lonely days, where only an Apple Chai and Lemon loaf can chase the blues away.

Crazy I know, but as a creative, I guess we get inspired by different things. I've never really ben a fan of Starbucks and their "get rid of the small guy" agenda, but when you can't beat em.... LOL At least in this instance. I even dig some of the music on their HEAR MUSIC label. Maybe that's where I'll pitch my music. I can see me playing in all of the Starbucks across the globe. With the old man who reads the newspaper every morning, while sipping his Moca Latte with extra foam bobbing his head like "THAT'S MY SHIT!!"

Just a thought, look out for that COFFEE SHOP HIP HOP & BLACK TEA, 2010. So it has been written, so it shall be done.

CAN YOU BE TOO OLD TO RAP/MC?

Photobucket

I recently pondered on my new social experiment and musical project to figure out how long I should test this out for. Starting a career as a MC/Band leader at the age of 28 may seem a little misguided. Am I trying to catch dreams from years past? or am I truly interested in leaving a mark on the musical world?

I've been working in and around music for quite a while and have always yearned for the stage. Hey I've even performed once or twice (and did quite well might I add). But in today's world of Hip Hop gone wrong, is there truly a place for the MC who just wants to perform and have a good time without the jewelry, cars, masagonistic lyrics, and mundane mesages. In order for us to figure that out, I think we must first delve into where Hip Hop is today, and who the leaders are.

And there lays the bigger question, DO WE HAVE LEADERS IN THE HIP HOP COMMUNITY?
WHO CAN WE LOOK TO TO VALADATE A GENERATION OF MUSGUIDED YOUTH? I personally feel I may be too old to really identify with the Twitteration (Twitter Generation) in entirety, but I can understand the plight of the neighborhoods they live in, the things they think about, and what they are going through on a daily basis. This all comes from being a young man of color. But will DRAKE lead a generation of young men to understand they need to still "FIGHT THE POWER" or will all of the girls he loves (who probably have not been tested) deter him from taking a strong stance on any issue that won't bring him publicity.

And while JAY Z is destroying autotune, and tries to lead the Hip Hop artist of today to the holy grale of genuine music, should we still hold him responsible for progressing a generation of lost souls. I mean lets be honest we've been lost since before Hip Hop. And most times we forget that music has always been a way to relay stories and anecdotes that could possibly one day lead us to freedom, concioulsy and unconciously.

But this does not answer the question, How old is too old to rap? Here is my personal answer.

As long as you are saying something viable, you can never be too old to express yourself. I still get chills while watching The Last Poets perform, or when Metallica hits the stage. In my eyes it is the same thing when it comes to Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Rock, or any genre of music. The problem we have in Hip Hop is that the content has not changed as the artists get older. They rhyme about the same things at 35 as they did at 21. But I find it is more of a personal imprisonment that keeps them in that place, maybe even moreso than a professional one. So to the MCs out there rap to your hearts content, but maybe you should take a look at your content. Change is growth. Maybe its time for us to grow up and put something on wax that will be timeless in content as well as character.

Just my 2 cents on my personal journey. Will I be rapping or touring with my band at 35? Who knows! LOL That's why this blog is called THE RISE AND FALL OF MR. C.J. BROWNE

Mr. Browne

THIS JUST IN!!!

So I just got word yesterday, that I will be performing in Shibuya, Japan at the Pink Cow on August 25th, 2009. But the best part is the fact that it's a show all about me. People will rate my mixtape and be able to give me feedback on what is good, bad or indifferent. How fantastic is that?!!! This will build great momentum for the WONDERLAND TOUR in 2010.

Thanks to Dai Hunter and all of the hardoworking people over at www.daitime.com. Look out for my interview with Dai while over in Japan. I'm too excited. This project is starting off with a bang!

THE RISE

So this is the beggining of the journey. I will be writing this blog ove rthe course of 1year and 6 months about the good, the bad, and the ugly as I embark on the road to fulfilling a dream of becoming a recording artist. I've always wanted to release 2 albums and then retire, so I am giving myslef a year to do it viably (by my standards) I hope to bring you guys on a fantastic personal journey into what could possibly be a great failure, or moderate success. First up the promo mixtape; THE WHITE RABBIT. To be released digitally and in limited printed quanities across NYC, JAPAN, and LONDON. If you are into good music, make sure you check this joint out. First official studio session is tommorow. Stay tuned...

This is the RISE AND FALL OF MR. C.J. BROWNE.
